Whats Going On ? :(

Just for info - is that limestone rock in the tank? Looks very white to me. This rock can affect pH so when you get the test kit please check the pH as well.

Also, dont forget to keep an eye on temperature. Fish can get too hot and too cold. Lost a few fish myself in our heatwave last week.

nice size tank there.

It is corol so we do have to keep a close eye on the Ph and also have to keep the tank really clean otherwise it will go dark we also have large amounts of lava rock in there.

forgot to mention there is a black knife ghost fish in there but he is really placid thats why there is a bit of tube in there taken from the hoover before it was used. lol

BGKF is going to easily outgrow that tank. He needs re-homing or upgrading. As you said you are switching to marines then I presume re-homing is the best option.

the strips normally bring up 0 NO3 / NO2 morning after the water change,

But a cycled freshwater tank should never show 0 NO3... I would expect 20-40. And usually there is even at least 10 ppm of it out of the tap!

You need to get an NH3 (ammonia) reading! Try to get that API kit :good:

My guess is that there is too much current. Betas will often sit in the corners or behind decor to get out of the current.

Tiger loach is another name for clown loach. You probably just have too much fish in that tank. Please check your ammonia level. What is the temperature?

It isn't, Tiger loach is Botia hymenophysa
Clown loach is Chromobotia macracanthus

And higher currents and flow wont affect female bettas in the same way males will struggle. It is more likely to be the nitrite reading.
