I recently went to my favorite Mexican restraunt. As I sat down I noticed the man's plate next to me.he had a crispy fish fried whole with a spicy chipote sauce drizzled over it.And I said to the waitress that I wanted that.so i had a few orchatas(a rice milk and cinnamon drink)and some nachos as i waited .as she brought the the fish to the table I noticed that it was talapia cichlid.I thought to myself what would the cichlid society think of me now, eating one of my finned friends. It was quite good,id order it again .the asian raise tilapia in rice paddies they seem to thive there since they are hardy .they eat anything.ive only seen them for sale in chinatown.live ones that is ive seen talapia in the supermarket recently

Tilapia are african cichlids so this has been moved to the correct forum.

have never eaten talapia myself (never knew it was a cichlid), but i've heard its really quite good

Talapia is really delicious. I had no idea it was a cichlid.
There is a Ruby Tuesdays restaurant near me that has a great Spicy Tilapia dish. Try it.................it's awesome.
