Im getting a 72 inch width tank because that's the widest I can go and I know the wider the better but I have a choice of a 72x24x31 tank (240 gallon) or a 72x30x25 tank (240 gallon)  What would be better for a FOWLER tank??
2 tangs
1 large angel
1 puffer
1 trigger
1 wrasse
1 tusk fish
1 fox face

I and building a huge custom filtration system so I just want to know with this stock what would be more bennifical the hight or the depth for the main tank??

More depth is preferable as this will increase the surface area for gaseous exchange.

Excuse me if I am not mistaken but a tank with more depth will have less surface area than a wider tank. Ex. A 20 gallon long has more surface area than a normal 20 gallon.

RSV is right, and we're stuck on semantics.  Height vs depth (width). Perhaps if we were talking length vs width vs height it would be easier (as depth could be interpreted as either width or height).

Is there a standard terminology? A wider tank (from front to back) would have more surface area than a taller tank (top to bottom).

Now I'm confused!

My bad! I thought RSV was referring to depth as height, as in vertically. That makes sense now ;)
