Whats Best With Water Changes?

for what it's worth i do a 10-20% w/c every week on my 300l, i find this keeps on top of things well enough for the tank to look good. apart from anything else i couldnt be bothered to do it every couple of days, i dont enjoy doing it once a week as it is!!!!!!!

thought id add beens every 1 else seems 2 of :p i do 30-50 water change every week, i keep plecs so bigger the better it's not only water chnages but a very thourough clean of the gravel 2, also do say a 75% water once a mnth just 2 clear alot of the stuff ive missed with the weekly 1's, big water chnages IMO are extreamly heathly as longs s water added obviously doesnt make the tank 2 cold my fish love it when i do big water change and not 2 mention the satisfaction of knowing my water is extreamly clean and my fish apprieciate it :)

anyways thats wot i think lol

I was just wondering what all of you do with that water after you change it? I use my water to water all the patio plants that way I am recycling it, since I live in CA and we are in a bad drought.
Since I use a python, all of my water goes outside and into the grass. :good: If I'm ever using a bucket, it goes to the plants on the patio (like you) or in a bush or something. No reason to waste it.

I'm glad you don't waste all that water! Thanks for looking out for the planet!

There is one other reason to prefer small frequent water changes rather than larger changes, and that's if you've got ammonia and/or nitrite in your tapwater. In the UK, levels of ammonia and nitrite up to 0.5 mg/l are permitted in tap water, and you probably wouldn't want to do a 90% water change routinely if you were adding water containing this sort of level... Frequent small changes keep the pH stable and other benefits of water changing without stressing the fish.
