how does a fiter oxygenate the water?

i have a internal power filter, will that put oxygen in the water annnd...

how much below the water should my filter be so that it can oxygenate it?

annnd... can i put a 75 watt heater in a 3 gallon tank?!?!

thanks bye

75 W seems way out of the 3 gal's league...

The filter oxygenates the water by stiring the water surface. So you should have the "ray of water" from the filter level with the water surface to get a good effect.

As long as you see bubbles coming out of the return that will be fine for a 3 gallon. A 75 watt heater is way to much for your 3 gallon. You can get a $6 2 gallon heater at Wal Mart. Good luck.

i dont see any bubbles, the top pump part is about an inch of the surface

should it be level to the surface?

Put your outflow so it breaks the water surface.....and I agree that 75w is far too much for a little tank. You may consider an air pump and air stone to keep the water moving.

If the waters got air bubbles in then thats great.....fish in the wild normally kive in moving water so thats great......airstones are cheap as are air pumps and they add interest to your tank.....

As long as the output from the filter is moving the surface water about it's fine. You don not need to have bubbles or anything.

im petty sure u do actually!

thats what oxygenates ur water right?

mine is just over the surface and i can see tiny bubles around

is that right? sorry!

Basically anything that increases the surface area of your tank will help to oxygenate it - so just directing the current of your filter upwards will disturb the surface, therefore increasing the size of it, therefore helping to oxygenate it

Bubbles don't actually add oxygen to the water while they're bubbling up, they're just good because when they hit the surface they agitate it, and therefore increase the surface area etc etc.

You may be pretty sure, but that doesn't mean you are right! You do not need bubbles.

but dont u need it for beneficial bacteria to grow eh :fun:
Nope, it doesn't help to filter your water at all, it just oxygenates it. And it looks pretty :*

Coz the fishies need oxygen to breath! That's what the gills are for - that's why they don't need to come to the surface to breath air like aquatic mammals like whales etc.
