What would you do?

Look around more.
you can find a 55G with tank, hood and lights for $99 depending on where you live.

i've already bought the 30 gallon, and i think it' just right.......I don't want anything fancy, or extravagant, just basic and somethin that would be good to look at........

assuming your 30 gallon is 36 1/4 x 12 5/8 x 16 3/4 for my centerpiece i would have a big old severum. Not fancy but very good to look at and for the most part is very mild tempered.

some general info can be found here on this fish

that sounds like a good plan....i wont have any problems with fighting or anything will I?what about the liking of different pH levels/water tempature??thanks again for all the help!!!!!!!!

p.s. its ok to mix the gouramis right?like dwarfs, honey's, and the other ones i can't remember??and aren't barbs aggressive??

there should be no probs....the barbs wont bother anyone else if there r atleast 5 of them....not sure about mixing gorramis(should be no prob)....different ph/temp...i dont worry too much as all my fish r all in the same water(not the same tank of course) and around 80 degrees and my lfs is a 5 min walk away so its the same water as in my house......good luck :D

Have a look at my thread on getting a larger tank. I have been given some fabby advice on stocking these two sized tanks. I can't wait...I have been scouring e-bay. :D

Congratulations on your tank. Next job, once you've decided on your fish list, will be to decide how to cycle the tank. Have a read through the pinned topics at the top about cycling. It can be done with hardy fish (danios, platies) but a more humane way (and essential if the fish you want aren't that hardy) is to do fishless cycling. The most important thing is to remember you can't just dump your fish in. Either they need to be added slowly in order of hardiness (cycling with fish) or you will need to spend a couple of weeks or so cycling the tank with ammonia first (but then you can add most of your stock). Good luck!
