Say there was a blizzard and it knocked the power out and you can't get out of the house and the power will be off for 1 week and you have all tropical fish like bettas. What would you do to keep your self and your fish warm during the power outage?

I would tape poly tiles to the tanks and feed minimally as the cooler waters would slow their metbolism down. Then I would stay in bed

Just wondering why you are asking, do you know something we don't

I'd try to keep a flash light on 24/7 over the tank. I'd also put blankets over the tank too. Now, carosine lamps can keep you pretty warm, I'd stock up on those and carosine too. Why are you asking this? You obviouisly have power as you have a computer, or do you have a back-up generator?????

i would put blankets over there tanks and for me i would just wear my jaket inside my house

Everyother hour or so I'd replace some water with warm water.
We had a week and a half long poweroutage a few years ago, us and 3 other families shared one generator so everything in the fridge didn't spoil.

I would wrap a blanket around the tank and sing "rocka by baby on the tree top" until they all sleep and then kiss them all on the forehead and tuck them in. . :D
-Arrowhead :ninja:

^And hope its not the last time you do so :/

I tried using blankets to keep the heat in one winter on my 40 gallon tank when we lost power for 3 days. My fish didn't survive.

I'm just curious so I can use your guys ideas in case it happens to me.

Battery heaters of course!
There are battery operated heaters ???? Wow now they have everything. Next your going to tell me they have battery operated power filters. :S

They probably do. :S

DO NOT USE KEROSENE HEATERS INDOORS OR IN POORLY VENTILLATED LOCATIONS. that's a really fast way to give you and your fish carbon monoxide poisoning. never ever use any gasoline, kerosene or other "--ene" burning appliances in areas with restricted air flow unless the user manual explicitly states that it is approved for such use. even then, be careful

Who brought up Kerosene Heaters? To my knowledge Toyotomi no longer exports kerosene heaters to the USA.
