what would compliment tiger barbs best?

A 20 gal isnt really a big tank....I'd be careful as your almost at your limit of 1-2" per gallon. Your RTB will get to 6"+ and your tigers will prob get to 3". I'd add a green tiger barb or two. Tigers need alot of swimming room and there aggression tends to amplify in smaller tanks.

Yes, you will run out of the tank space fast... I would have suggested a pair of kribs or blue rams if the tank was bigger but in your sized tank, once they mate and start spawning, all fishes minus these ones will be living at a little corner of the tank, unable to swim out of that region... You will probably loose some fishes in the process as well...

weirdly enough..the serpaes are picking on the barbs it seems..it might just be because they're new to the tank, hopefully they'll calm down by tomorrow..but thankfully i have another tank i can put them in if they continue to not get along

if you want a cool fish that can live with tiger barbs. bolivian rams are sweet looking and are aggressive in their own right. i have 12 tiger barbs and 6 rams and they live peacefully.

While rams are a nice fish and a pair would be ok....they wouldn't be in this tank...again its a small tank which is stocked pretty full right now....adding more fish is just going to add to problems down the road!!

I find cories and zebras make good tankmates for tiger barbs, but they are not very colorful. I have a school of zebras at the top of my tank a school of tigers in the middle and a school of cories on the bottom. Works out pretty well and it is a 20 gallon.
