What Was Your Most Expensive Fish

Platinum arowanas fetch $15k as babies (only 3 inches long). Full growns go for millions.

The most I've ever paid on one fish is $9 for my synodontis hybrid. He's a year and a half old and was worth every penny. I've spent up to $50 on my panda corys; each one is $4. I used to have 8, a few have died and I've got more. I have 6 now.

Millions??? how long do they live? and can you breed them?

luke

Arowanas live for quite some time. They mature around 5 years old and can live as long as 30 years! I'm sure you can breed them, but breeding platinum arowanas would be VERY expensive. You'd have to buy a female and a male, and if they go for so much money, how would you make profit? They aren't purchased often because of their high price tag. I mean, I love fish, but I'd spend 3 million dollars on a new house rather than a fish I could kill simply by have a power outage. @__@

Well......

Ellis was in Peterborough, we live in Manchester....

So whilst he was free.... he still cost us over £60 to go and get him!

Most expensive fish was my m. dayi eel, Bob, he was i think £15/£20...... i forget though but i know it was sufficient for me to fib about the price to OH....

The most expensive has to be my goldie plec, who cost me $36. I was afraid he wasn't going to make it, but now he is fat and happy.

You people are so lucky for cheap fish, not in OZ :(

Most expensive fish for me
$50 for a sailfin plec
then about $40ea for some discus
and $60 for a school of chocolate gourami (7 I think)

Most expensive fish I've considard, a birchar for $300

most expensive fish I've seen, $1200 for a large (3' ?) wild caught shovelnose catfish)

I agree with you Katchan, fish are expensive here. :(
One LFS I go to has sunset discus going for $160 each. Most of my fish cost around $3-4, I have a gourami that cost $9.
Saltwater fish are SO expensive. That's why I don't have them! Another LFS I know had clownfish pairs for $500...I think a blue tang was around $90

Afraid I'm a bit of a cheapskate  My most expensive was £ 4.95 each for a pair of bristlenoses, and I've already earned more than that selling their fry. Other than that, £ 4.00 each + postage for 6 phallichthys tico, so hardly extortionate and they are well worth the price.
