What Type Of Sand Do I Need?

thanks for all the help guys i am going to go to argos and buy the sand now hopefully this goes well.

A lot of people around here use playsand. If you have a look in the planted section of these forums, you'll see that the catlitter thing isn't that unusual either.

In regards to cleaning the sand, the method Salam and Zoddy talked about works. I've also heard of people putting it in a pillow case and running the tap through it. The dirty water will go through the fabric but the sand won't.

I hope you guys arent advocating breaking our hosepipes bans........ shame on you lol

ha ha lol. And once again i will like to thank everyone who has helped me as i cant leave the house for a few days i have just orderd 2 backs of play sand from argos and i will be using the pillow method to clean the sand with.

Glad you went for two, always good to have some spare for top up etc. make sure you get them to put it in a big carrier, the stuff always escapes the bag

Should i add plants before or after i put fish in the tank?

dose anyone use TetraPlant CompleteSubstrate under there sand/gravel for plants? or is cat litter the best idea ?

Thanks everyone for the help i have no added the play sand to my tank i will see how it goes after i added the water and the plants kinda looks weird right now. Also do u guys recommend i put plants in before i add water or add water then plants?

I think it's easiest to add a little water (1/4 - 1/2) and then the plants and then the rest of the water. This way you can easily arrange them without getting your arms too wet, but the water will help see what it will look like once full so you can arrange and re-arrange.

Fully agree, especially if you are cold filling then adding the plants as your hands get ruddy cold
