Hi what type of lighting do you guys recomend for a reef tank a 50 gallon one. Medal Hide or V.H.O.? I was think VHO but i am not sure any suggestions please!!! :) !

I prefer floerescent over halides. But that is me. Go VHO, or the new T5's are supposed to really be something. You will want 300-400 watts.

Hi there

Metal halide lights are what the majority go for but i have a T5 unit with 6 tubes and the output is as good as a halide only it doesnt give the ripple effect that halides do.

I would go for the T5s

hey :D
IMO i like the effect that M/H gives, in saying that i have never seen the T5's up close and personal, but as mentioned i have heard you lose the ripple effect, which i like to see
if you are interested (and i wont push you on this as i dont mind either way)
i have a spare 150watt M/H resessed light with ballast, i was gonna use in my sump, no bulb tho
i dont know what the dimension of your tank are, but if you want it, it wont be too expensive probs about £40, + p&p
if interested (and in the UK, never noticed) PM me
i can find a link to let you see what it looks like if required :D
anywho, no pressure
stay fluffy

i would go for m/h as the t5's will only penatrate to a depth of 18'' so if ur tank is 2 foot deep like mine the full spetrum of light wont get to the bottom but if money is a factor then go for the t5's

aswell the t5's are actually no better than normal tubes the t5 bit is just how thick they are and has nothing to do with performance
