hi all,
i have a 190 liters tank and want to change the gravel. i am looking for something that is relatively big in size

what type of gravel do you recommend and how many kgs would i need for my 190 tank?

i have seen those gelly shaped ones which i kind of like but thought i also ask here

thanks

Personally, I would go for a natural coloured gravel, as bright colours can sometimes stress out the fish. Using a natural gravel also makes the fish feel more secure. I would allow around 10kg for around 60 litres of water.

Be certain that any gravel that you buy in a fish shop is not marked for use in a salt water tank. That kind will contain tons of shell which will drive your pH through the roof. I generally buy a coarse sand from myb local home improvement center. It takes a bit of extra washing to get it clean but it looks just right in place, like this.

You will probably want around 30Kg of substrate for a more or less standard depth in the tank. I find the stuff in most pet shops just too expensive to get that much.
