What Type Of Algae Cleaning Fish ?

How long have you had him, how big is he and what other fish are in the tank? They are generally fine until the get to about 3 or 4 inches. Then they will start to harass the other fish and try to suck the slime coat off them. Slow moving, flat bodied fish like gouramis and angels are especially at risk.

being someone who has had otos in a small tank i would never recommend them for tanks smaller than 55 gallons since A. Not too hardy, B. May not eat prepared foods, C. Eat a lot for their size, D. combine B and C together and you may get a starving oto.

have them in a 55 gallon tank, if they eat prepared foods then you can have them in smaller tanks, if they only eat algae keep them away from smaller tanks. 3 died in my 20 gallon of starvation.

I had them for a while but could never keep them alive. I had brown algae at the time and thy ate it like crazy. But when it was gone, they wouldn't eat anything else. I tried cucumbers, zuchini, and other veggies all to no avail and I lost the all. I won't ever have any more.

Otocinclus catfish need more than just vegetation in their diet. Give them frozen blood worms or brine shrimp or shrimp pellets or whatever. They are OMNIVORES!!! I can't believe how many people have starved their otos from the belief that they are vegetarians!! Mini-Rant over. It's 3am here and I need sleep.

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but are you sure they are omnivores? Every piece I have read on them says they are herbivores.
