Hubby and I have half discussed keeping the two pleco's we recently rescued, but it seems a bit of a waste of the tank. (Juwel rio 300) 47" x 20 x 20. What other fish could be kept with very large pleco's (they are 14" long)

if its a common you could keep some cichlids maby some oscars ....i duno but if the tank is big enought a bala shark

sorry that the reply came late the members are usualy quite good at posting asap

Plecos get along with almost everything. They pretty much keep to them self unless bothered or starving. Most fish don't bother them because they just stay on the bottom or sides and mind their own business.

ou can house them with just about anything. id stay away from piranha/wolf fish/other carnivorous predators, but just about anything else will be ok. unfortunately, that tank will soon be too small for them.

Thanks for that everyone, I just dont know what to do with them to be honest. I couldnt have left them in the horried conditions I found them in, and I am getting quite attatched to them now. but they do seem very lively (for pleco's), I am just worried they would crush other fish as they do have the tank to themselves now and seem to be enjoying being able to swim about freely.

Keep the water clean, have ample filtration and the common plecs should be fine, The tank has just about enough width for them and even if it is a little on the small side, it is much better than what most people can offer them,

Personally I would simply add something like a Gold Severum and a group of Dithers; 5 Giant Danios or Rainbows for example, which will give you a centrepiece for the tank and an active shoal to catch your eye

thats already a massive bioload, i'd got for tetras.

depends on the filtering the op has and the tank maintenance they perform

i think a group of 6 giant danios or congo tetras might look nice

Thanks all, after considering the space they take up and the mess they make I am going to keep them on their own, unless a suitable home can be found for them. I am currently running two juwel jumbo internal filters, but am on the look out for a fluval 405 or similar. I am doing weekly water changes and daily netting all extra (4ft long!!!!) poop and waste.

I think it is ironic that most lfs have these for sale a couple of inches long. My mum bought one for my sons tank, she wasnt told how big they grow! she had a shock when she saw these two.
