Currently cycling a 28 litre tank, planning to keep 2 or 3 ADFs. Just wondering whether there's anything else we can put in with the frogs without risking either frog or friend, or one or the other pinching all the food? I've had mixed advice about bettas - it seems to depend on the betta - what about shrimps? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

i've got mine in with guppies, mollies a garra and tetras also some cherry shrimp, u just have to make sure they get some food.
you can do this by feeding the fish after a while the frogs smell the food an come out, i then squirt them with blood worm or hrh frog an tadpole bites, using a turkey baster.

Adult dwarf shrimp would be good companions, the frogs might take a lunge or two at them but they're about the same size so they can't eat them. They might be able to eat the babies if you get a species that can be bred in freshwater though.

The smaller non-nippy fish(guppies, platies, etc) could go with them, but they'd be likely to go for the frog food.

Regarding bettas, it is better to get a betta first and then see if they'd get along with what you want to keep them with instead of adding them to an already inhabited tank. Bettas can vary wildly in personality.

Thanks for the advice. My daughter's definite she wants frogs, so I think we need to put them first rather than risk a betta that turns out to be an axe-murderer in disguise. The platys and danios in the big tank are such pigs, I'm sure the frogs would starve if we mixed them. Sounds like shrimps could be a possibility - she likes that idea. Would cherry shrimp be suitable, or could you recommend another sort?
Thanks again!

Cherries, ghosts, they'd all be fine. Just make sure not to get a Macrobrachium species, as they'd easily catch the sedate frogs.
