ok im new to cichlids and i have a cichlid with blue green spots on his side and a red belly i also have a pl*co in the tank but the pl*co hides alot because the cichid is always stalking it.

what other fish can i have with it in a 55 gal tank what else can i put with it without it being eaten

Can you post a pic by chance? Did your fish store have no label on the tank at all? How big is it right now?

Whatever you do, do not under any circumstances do not add anything until you have accurately identified the fish. It could turn out you can't keep anything at all with it.

Then these guys will destroy anything you attempt to keep with him. They are very evil fish. They were engineered in Asia by mixing several species that would not otherwise be able to crossbreed, and are quite unpredictable because of this. I would even remove the Pleco.

I just got a FH and I had no clue how evil they were until an hour after i put him in the tank i found my firemouth literally shredded with it's eyes and fins torn off. After having this guy for a week now I am very happy that i bought it. I have found this fish to have even more personality than my last oscar(which the firemouth killed). Most agree that keeping them alone is usually the best because they tend to kill everything eventually. I hear of alot of people putting blood parrots with them but those too will probobly end up shredded. One option in a 55 is to get a partition to seperate the fish. Also FH's PErfer a ph closer to 8 and a reletively hot water temp of around 84 so tankmates would have to be able to tolerate such conditions.
As for selling it for $100.00 only the top 5% of firehorns bring that kind of cash I got mine for $16. I'd definetly keep that fish it has good markings and with optimal treatment will become more and more beautiful. If you want to learn more about flowerhorns i suggest visiting http://www.flowerhornusa.com/
their forum is excelent and you will be suprised at how seriously some people take collecting flowerhorns and other hybrids.
