Watching fish.
In late June, I am going to Newfoundland for a Month and when we are there my grandmother said she would get me something around 10 Gallon tank.
We are thinking of putting it in my basement and all that. But, what should I get for my tank? I was thinking of getting a heater and getting some guppies for it.

You will need a heater and filter for most tropicals although some don't run heaters as the ambient room temp is warm enough. In a basement, I would think you would need the heater, especially if it's unfinished and not heated.

For a 10 gallon, check the link below as it has a lot of suggestions for stocking a 10 gallon.

i hear small species like small tetras like neons, guppies, and platies do great in 10 gallon tanks. Maybe even some Cherry Shrimp.
My mother kept these (except the cherry shrimp) Make sure you cycle your tank (this allows bacteria that break down the ammonia that your fish produce) this can take a little more than a month. It can be hard to wait that long but your fish will die if you don't allow this process. You can do a fish in cycle but this is hard (I know from experience)

Oh yes, and also, we have a Pellet Stove in the basement for the winter, so that's when the basement is the hottest.

what about a pair of cockatoo apistoor you could divide it in half and get a betta like you said you wanted in a diffrent thread

good
or why dont you put the 2 Comet Goldfish 1 Shubunkin from your 30l tank in there until you can rehome them

thats a better idear but the golfish will still have to be rehomed when they get bigger because the tank is still to small

Yeah, if I was allowed, I would buy a big tank and give them to my grandmother or someone I see alot. But, I'd doubt that'll happen, but I would adore getting a pond for outside I would have a pond bigger tan my house :hyper:

well i have a 48ltr, slightly bigger than a 10 gallon and my tank mates are:

2 pygymy corrys
5 neon tetras
2 honey/red robin gourami
3 ottos
2 platys

and it looks a colourful, nice community tank.

i personly wouldnt recomend guppies, as i feel if you are prepared for a lot of fry (and i mean ALOT) then you need another tank, and all you will keep is guppies. or you can get some other livebearers, like platys are always nice, and they dont breed half as much but will probably breed easily. and thenget some honey gouramis (they are real good tankmates and there my favourite fish by far!) or a little shoal of something, eg harlequines, teras, ect. and get some little bottom dwellers.

thats just my opinion anyway :dunno:

good luck and let us no on your desision :good:

why not just give them to the lfs or somethink put the guppies in the 10g and get a heater for the 30l and get a betta like you have said you wanted in alot of posts

you need atleast 2 females to every male
I guess that's true.
3 males and 6 females. how's that sound?
The biggest issue with this for a 10 gallon tank is that guppies produce lots of fry and unless you have plans for all of them, you will soon be very overstocked. Even if you let nature take it's course, some will survive and your stocking level will continue to increase.
