I have a small 2.5 gal tank that we got for my son for Christmas, but after learning we could not keep the types of fish he wanted in them we moved onto the bigger 10 gallon. So now that I have cleaned up and the small tank is ready, and in case you didn't read my other post I either didn't catch the pregnant platy in time or she wasn't pregnant...anywho the person at the lfs was like u could put two small platys or pair of guppies or something like that in the tank, i just want some input from people on here since maybe they're just trying to sell me fish. Let me know what you think should go in the tank or if you think it's a better idea to leave it open in case she baloons up again then use it as temp housing for the fry until i can get a bigger tank and/or give them to my friends/family.

Thanks

It's too small for platys or guppies, if u divide it u could house two male bettas in it. Thats what i would do with it :D .

as mentioned above, u could use it either as a quarantine tank or for housing male bettas (with a divider).

u can also keep a pair of small fish (barbs, danios, etc).

Thanks for the ideas...I do have a divider but not sure where it is....I might leave it as a quarantine tank for now or as a birthing tank then move babies to a bigger new tank to be by themselves since if i had even two babies grow they probably wwould be too much for my 10 gal....or I am thinking of moving my bigger zebra danio into there b/c he is constantly chasing my little neons and the smaller zebras...my wife wanted to flush him but I told her you can't do stuff like that...one other thing i heard of these things called ghost shrimp what about those?

You could use it for a single betta. Mine lives in a 5.5 gallon home with a black mystery snail for company (and bottom cleaning). Betta seems to appreciate having real room to swim.

Keeping a zebra danio in a 2 gal tank would be cruel: like keeping a pony in the cpboard under the stairs and never letting it out. As you have noticed, they are fast active fish; they need a tank of at least 20 gals, and a shoal of at least 6-8 danios. If youa re having aggression problems then lack of space and lack of companions are the most likely culprits. Note however that lots of chasing backwards and forwards is part of danios' natural behaviour; the trick is to confine it to their own group (by keeping a school) and not keeping them in the same tank as any fish likely to be stressed out by this behaviour.

Ghost shrimps should be fine but you need to keep decent water quality. Check out the Invertebrates section. A betta is a good idea too, but that is really the only fish that will thrive in such a small tank. Or, as has already been suggested, you could keep the tank on standby, by keeping its filter medium (sponge) in your larger tank until it is needed for a temporary hospital tank. It will not do for a permanent home for any other fish than a betta. Definitely not platies or guppies; they need a 10 gallons tank minimum.

Thanks to all for ideas...Again, I didn't think the fish store was right since the two platys i have poop a lot and would probably die in a week or less in that tank. Anywho, since my platys seem all love-love again, once she starts showing signs I'll move her there to give birth then take her out and back into normal tank and keep the fry in the small tank until they start growing then I should have a BIG tank that I can move them into to really grow in

The 2.5 gallen tank you have could be used for breeding small fish like guppys and gobys.
If you cant be bovered to mess around and spend money flog on EBAY
