Ok so I didn't want to have to buy a load of new stuff again to set the 25L so I stuck to the little 3 gal its sat on my desk. Had a go at scaping it sort of Iwagumi style but not happy with it yet, plus dust needs to settle so photos soon hopefully :)

Cool :) looking forward to seeing it, also I saw the other day that boraras brigittae are called mosquito rasboras and chili rasboras, if you're on the lookout :p

The problem with both chilli rasbos and CPDs is that they like to shoal, and having them in a large enough group for them to feel comfortable means you would overstock an 11l tank. 5 neons would be way too much.

You could go with a SFF (betta) but if you want shrimp as well, then the SFF might well consider the shrimp to be lunch.

Endlers are pretty small and don't need to be in a group.

But if anyone is ever nice enough to buy me a pico-tank like that, I'm gonna do what Tolan said - loads of Java Moss and a colony of shrimp - probably Crystal Red or if I can find any, Orange Eyed Blue Tiger Shrimp. And if I can get them breeding......

Might just keep to shrimp, need to cycle first anyway so gonna be weeks before I stock. Getting camera out....
Added a few bits of HC cuba from the main tank, amazon sword and some java moss onto the main rock. Dosed with TNC ferts and flourish excel under a 20W desk lamp
Here we go:

It's funny I was just coming on here to ask what I could do with a small desktop tank. Keeping fish is addicting, I'm still setting up my 35gal and I'm planning to set up a 10gal for my daughter next weekend (will be cycling her filter in my main tank). Now I'm pondering something pretty on my desk. What's the smallest I could get away with plants and shrimp in? I'm thinking like a 2 or 3 gallon. Would that work?
Also is there maybe a guide or ebook for setting up that kind of tank?

Setting up is easy enough maybe easier than a normal tank its just the restrictions on live stock. I'd love to put this on my desk but I can't risk water going into my computer

Will watch the journal! I am actually tempted now to start a pico tank for my soon to be new classroom. The kids would love a shrimp tank, but need to speak to the headteacher and site staff first.

Sounds like a plan :) It would be interesting to compare the two tanks as time goes by. Would be handy to find out what works best :good:

Definitely! Can't wait to get my big Iwagumi tank properly started too. Will pick up minnt's rock this Sunday.

You realize that you are very local to me? About 10 minutes :)

Am thinking about getting the 14 l cube tank at Pets at Home, but won't start new job until September and then I have to make sure first that it's ok to have a classroom tank.

Oh yeah I never realised I'm right on the border to, Brownhills West by the M6 Toll. Which school do you teach at? How much is that from P@H? I got my 11L from BnM for £12

That's even closer. I'm in Cannock BTW.

Will start working in Rugeley, but I worked for four years at Wood Green in Wednesbury prior to my current year out. Wouldn't it be funny if you told me now that you went to that school?

I think the P@H one is 20-25, but it comes with a filter and is a nice glass cube. Although actually, the long shape might be better suitable, will have a look at B&M too.
