Well first off hope this is the right forum. I'm bored waiting for my big tank to cycle and I have an old one gallon bow front tank (My first tank ever) that's just been sitting in the garage for the longest time. Are there any fish suitable for this size? When I was younger I kept a betta in there but have since read that its too small for them. I don't have a heater for it and the filter is an undergravel filter. Is there anything I can do with this tank? Can I plant it and put shrimp and snails in there? If so how many and if it's just for them how do you cycle it if its even nessecary?

yes you will still have to cycle the tank again, just google cycling a fish tank youll find every thing you need to know.

a lot of people would disagree but i personally would just use tetra safe start along with a declorinator and go for it.

have you considered an african dwarf frog? i have 1 and they are pretty cool, ive heard you can keep them in a 1 gallon but they do say 1 frog per gallon. apparently they are pretty hardy with regards to water conditions which is all ways good in a small tank.

maybe a red clawed crab or a vampire crab but im not sure if you would get away with a 1 gallon??? look into them first. just remember smaller amounts of water are a lot harder to keep than larger tanks.

good luck let us know what you decide to go with.

Well here's the hardscape and yes that filter is huge in there XD

I love the rock I found for it it's perfect now to decide what plants to use hmmm...

that rock is cool, I have a very similarly-shaped piece of moonrock in my 5.5 gallon planted. The shrimp love all the nooks it provides. I think in your case it might displace too much water--lowering your already very low tank volume. Just my opinion if you plan on keeping any sort of fish or shrimp you should also put plants (instead of rock) in there to help clean the water and reduce ammonia spikes. I'd like to hear some other's opinions on tanks this small.

i hate to say it but i think ill agree with tgo, that rock will displace a lot of your water. as nice as it is i would remove the rock and just get a couple of plants instead. any idea what your going to put in there yet?

oh is that bad for shrimp?
a ph of 7.2 is good for cherry shrimp, but i read they are ok between 6.5 - 8. I dont know if all shrimp have the same ph requirement. I'm reading up on them at the mo as i'm planning on keeping them in my 20L tank and hopefully breed them.

How about a breeding colony of Galaxy Rasboras to prevent them being exist within four years of being unleashed to fishkeepers?

Nice idea but I wouldn't try it in a 1 gallon. Most galaxy rasboras (AKA celestia pearl danios) are actually captive bred now from what I've heard.

instead of cycling he small tank, why not just wait a little longer and take some mature media out of your new tank? That way its already cycled.

A few plants, some small stones/pebbles and shrimp would be good in there. If the shrimp breed, you could possibly put them in with the bigger tank or sell them?
