WHAT TO DO ABOUT DYED FISH

I used to belong to a different forum (not about fish keeping) where the members wanted certain things changed.

I learned 2 things during this:
Letters work much better than e-mail and online petitions don't work.

I'm all for sending letters to stop the dyeing.

Count me in also :flex:.

I think 1 standard letter co-ordinated and sent to the same place (RSPCA in UK?) as email's are easily ignored/deleted, letters work better.

Just my twopenneth!

Give me an address and/or an e-mail addy and a date, time etc and I'm done.
:sly:

If people keep buying dyed fish shops will keep selling them

Lets tear **** up :sly: ;)

Like I say, I'm thinking we write letters and send them by post... write them here, print them out, and then send them all at once. Bombard the RSPCA and they can't ignore us forever. I think the we should also send these letters to fish shops that sell dyed fishes to show them that people--a LOT of people--do care, and to fish places that do NOT sell them with a "THankyou for not selling dyed fish" note. That would encourage them to keep staying away from dyed fish.

However, if people keep selling dyed fish, they're going to keep selling them. Perhaps we ought to move for a disclaimer first--petshops have to have a sign on their tank telling people that these fish are dyed, how it's done, that it stresses out the fish and makes it sickly, and that it doesn't always last--kind of like the Surgeon General's warnings on cigarette packs. This would help keep people from buying them. Maybe we could even rent a few billboards to spread the ugly truth and open people's eyes about dyed fish. Once people stop buying these fish, then we can move for a ban.

Yes! we must kil!!!!!!! lol! I used to rescue those "Strawberry and blueberry and green apple and mango tetras" :grr: I felt sooo sorry for em! My "blueberry" lived the longest he lived for 2.5 years

i also think that standing in front of a pet shop that sells dyed fish and handing out sheets of paper saying how it is done and what stress it puts the fish through. also on the paper we should leave a phone number and-or and e-mail adress so that the people who care can get more information. if you dont think that this is a good idea please PM me so i don't go lookin like an @## infront of a pet store.

By the way good idea on posting this

I think the idea about billboards is good, loads of people look at them and they are huge. You could also ask the local newspaper to either put in an advertisment by you, or print a short, but noticeable artical, so that people can know of this cruel practice.

Advertising deathbydyeing.org would also be a good idea, people would look on the site and see that it isn't just you, its lots of people who care for the welfare of the fish.

i like the thread idea. i also like the billboard idea.

(tell me when anything is going to take action)

You will get a lot more success if you make it a sort of "add your name to this petition" type of thing. Lots of non-fish people who were not previously aware will join in if you make it easy for them to. They won't necessarily have the time or knowledge to write their own individual messages.

I suggest you might set up a 1 page website with a short statement about the cruelty of dyed fish with some statistics & images, then below it you have a form where someone adds their name & e-mail address and clicks a Submit button. The submit button sends a standard prepared message to Petsmart or whoever.
It can be made to submit to all the shops in one go.

Also a mail-in card is a very successful way to carry out this sort of campaign, same sort of thing : prepared statement, space for name & address, fix stamp here box. You can distribute this over the internet as well as in hard copy.

Hope I've given you some ideas?

Also, I'll glady join in.
