What The Scariest Thing You’ve Ever Seen In A Lfs?

What's the scariest thing i've seen at an LFS?

A reflection of me in a tank probably!
Seeing as I work in one it's not really the same because I see scary stuff everyday. The customers being one thing! :shifty:

Little kids running around yelling "look nemo!" (it was a goldfish). PEOPLE PUT YOUR KIDS ON A DAMN LEASH! :grr:

Maybe not the scariest think but if that is going to be the generation of tomarrow, I AM scared.

OMG! That is so true! When i'm doing tank maintainence I get some kids walking up and putting their hands in the bucket where i'm putting all the dirty water. Then you get those 'bang on the glass' as hard as possible kids. Then the 'look there's nemo' kids like you say. Oh and not forgetting my favourite. 'Excuse me, you have a dead fish here'. Turns out to be a Cory or a plec or something - 9 times out of 10 it's the parents who get them to say it too!

Bet hey ho! We love 'em all! I want a kid god damm it! OK girls, single male, 18 years old, likes fish (duh!), drives nice car - wants baby.. NOW! Forget taking it slow! lol! :D

I think the scariest thing I've seen was in a true LFS where the owner had about a gallon tank set up with a triple divider and 3 bettas in it. He also had 3 or 4 of those betta cubes set up. The ones that hold less than a quart of water. That just encourages people to buy those things, especially when he is saying that they don't really like to be in big spaces. I never went back to that store. Fortunately, it has gone out of business now.

I saw a goldfish at my local fish store that was being eaten alive. It's tail was gone up to its belly, and it was still very alive. It spine was sticking out the back end too while it swimmed.

A young guy that worked at this LFS was so aggressive when he caught your fish that he nearly knocked your fish out with several others with the net and sent a piece for driftwood with a plant on it flying while catching half a net full of gravel with your fish, every time, it was like a mini tornado, so much for not stressing your fish out, here we are being so careful when we get them home to introduce them slowly with lights dimmed, floating to get the same temperature, slowly adding a bit of your own water being so careful so it reduces the chance of disease and stress, what chance do they have with a start like that!
I won't be going back there again.

Violet gobies x_x they creep me out!!! Once, I went to Wal-Mart and looked at the fish and in the goldfish tank there was this dirty ornament with long strngy things hanging off... all of a sudden it moved!! I was so scared, then I realized it was 2 violet gobies trying to squirm into the holes in the ornament thing.
Also, at another shop that has these filters that aren't in the tank, but a little above water level, I was looking at the goldys and all of a sudden one pops out of the filter >.<

Most fish store employees I've seen don't have a clue how to properly net a fish, espeially fast ones. They smash them against the side of the tank and on numerous occasions have injured a fish that I was buying. I always use 2 nets when i have to net one at home. You can simply herd them with one net right into the second one. Mush easier than chasing them around the tank.

Oh rdd... you reminded me of the LFS we go to.
They're great other than their bettas.
Their little bowls are slightly larger than what Petsmart used to keep theirs in, but still small.
What's worse though, they also sell freaking betta vases and those absolutely god aweful donut shaped betta death trap tanks.
You know, the ones shaped like a small O with a hole in the middle. They actually have bettas in some of them sometimes and good lord they always looks so miserable.

You would think a fish shop that takes care of their other fish so well would know how to properly take care of EVERY fish they have.

a particularly notorious lfs near here got closed down a couple of years back for keeping a crocodile/alligator (can't remember which one it was) in what used to be one of their koi ponds.

such an awful shop honestly, when me and Ian first started dating he didn't believe me how bad it is so i took him in to see it for himself. Ian's a big butch builder...... he left nearly in tears. One absolutely gorgeous black angelfish had HITH so bad half it's face was missing. :-(

one tank was full of dead fish..... and someome was actually buying one... store quite happy to sell them even though they were clearly dead (no not just catfish ;) lol)

they have like this wall of glass bricks with betta's in, they hold less than a litre of water each, and most of them were half empty, poor things didn't have room to turn around or anything, just sat there looking so sad.

they must have a really good stockist though as they have some fantastic oddballs and fish you just don't see anywhere else around here, unfortunately they have no clue how to take care of them and therefore they are all riddled with disease :-(

An overstocked feederfish tank, balloon mollies, and oscars. I like Oscars, but the way they stare at you is unnerving. I also saw teeny tiny kits for bettas, and a fishbowl featuring a cartoon character, being adverised for goldfish! Big companies pay no attention to fish well being.

I once had this pet spotted turtle that ate goldfish. It was gory yet amazing to watch:He would swim after the goldfish, catch them in his jaws, scale them, and eat them. Sorry goldfishlovers!

Please refrain from profanity. Finding nemo was a good movie, but a lot of people bought Clownfish, placed them in bowls, and slowly killed them. :-( The mass media encourages kids to be excited. With kids, it gets multiplied. Sorry fish.

There's a few scary things I've seen at lfs.

A turtle tank that housed plecs that people would drop off due to their size. They had two plecs between 1.5-2 feet long!!!

A 300g that held a orange and white striped snapper missing one eye.(Okay, not scary, but I wouldn't wanna put my finger in there!!!)

A 20g housing 9 RB's (RB's kind of creep me out;no offense)

A friend of mine has a turtle tank, and the filter broke down. The LFS said to buy a Pleco!

i know what u mean about those 'kiddy fish kits'. theres a sponge bob one and a princess mermaid type one. Teeny tiny!
