What The Hell Is This

I just cleaned out my tank and when i do it i rinse the rocks and wood etc in the sink and let them sit on the draining board. afterwards i moved everything back into the tank but this tiny worm thing was left on the draining board. it was teardrop shaped and about 6-7mm long but when it tried to shuffle along it stretched to 15mm long. There are some photos on this site, i couldnt post them here coz the files were too big and i have a mac.

is it a parasite? should i be worried??

FYI the wooden thing in the last picture is a toothpick.

This isn't related to your problematic 'worm,' but in terms of posting the photos. Upload your photos to a www.photobucket.com account and let it resize them appropriately. I run a mac myself and use safari and have had no problems. Once the picture is uploaded, you can use the BBC code (provided by photobucket!) to display your images in your post. If I remember correctly, you can upload from your computer or the www.

i had to stip my tank of all shrimp and snails and used snail killer to rid my tank of them, it worked a treat but cant put snails and shrimp back now. copper based

ew, that does look like a leech, but I am far from being an expert in anything. Interesting markings, though. How do these things get into the tank in the first place? I wouldn't want to have to deal with anything like that with my tanks....

they usually come in on plants that have been kept outdoors in ponds. They can sometimes come in on snails too. When you get plants you should always check them over for snail eggs and leaches. It doesn't take long to check them over and it will save you time and worry compared to getting them out of the tank.

Oh-- yes.. That definitely looks leechy.

I know someone that actually keeps them as pets.. Apparently they are incredibly easy to keep, but she has to cover her leech tank, because they tend to escape.

So. If you're looking for another watery friend.. lol..
