Are these the ones in the tap water - or the original ones in the tank. This is getting more and more confusing I think mosquito larvae are likely to be bigger than a pin head - and I certainly hope they don't appear in tap water

I think the ones in tap water are more likely to be tiny springtails. And they won't be in the tap water as supplied by the water company but will have colonised the tap outlet.

What's to say that some sort of insect didn't just fly in and lay their eggs in the tank water? I know it's unlikely because the water is not still, but there's no telling with mother nature. Here's a picture of another unidentified insect larvae I found while browsing google.
