All of my guppy tanks are in heated tanks, & kept at around 24c.

I'm just curious as reading around the net & books, it seems they can be kept a quite different temps, from low 19c to upto 30c.

Does anyone keep them in an unheated room temp tank?

I've read people keep them at the higher temps for a shorter gestation period, does this have any effect on the health of the fry or the adult fish?

I'm planning my fish room at the moment & would appreciate any feedback on the range of temps people keep.

i kept all mine at room temp ( no heaters).. adults and fry.. tho the house isnt cold... they were all very healthy too :)

Shelagh, thats great news (good to see you too by the way, hope you are ok).

I was thinking of setting up a few more tanks before the fish room is sorted, but they would need to be unheated, my snakehead tank is unheated & stays at about 20c, so should be ok in here I think

I keep my guppies around 25 degrees,

I have noticed them in pet shops in cold water tanks with goldfish.

I keep all mine cook, low 70's currently.
Their all at room temp with no heating.

Mine are kept at around 80-82 F or 27 C. They were in a 3-gallon Eclipse and the light heated up the water to around 78 degrees (25 c), but today, they're being moved into a 5-gallon and they'll have a heater set at around 80. There are two female fry in the tank and I'm going to try and raise them and to breed them with my males!

Guppies kept at higher temperatures grow faster, mature faster and die of old age faster. Their whole life is spent at an accelerated pace. The females even have their fry in a shorter period of time. Isn't metabolic rate wonderful? I tend to favor a cool setting for guppies at around 70F, 21C, but I have kept them cooler and much warmer at different times.

Thanks for the input guys :good: Its looks like my plan for taking over the lounge with breeding tanks can go ahead

My husband is really gonna wish he started renovating the fish room for me sooner!lol

I keep mine at 24 to 27 degrees they very easy to breed we need to do nothing more than stick a male in with females :D
