it's a veiltail with a cut in his tail :( i suggest giving some kind of medication to help him mend :)

double tail maybe? Very pretty fish. I'm not a breeder or a show-er, but i think he's purty.

Its not a cut, i can tell damage when i see it. His tail is formed that way at the split the tail is round, its supposed to be like that. Never seen one like that before, pretty unique hey!

Edit: Thanks for the compliment

its a veil tail with a split in it, a true double tail splits at the base. You may find in time that tail may grow back together. But it may stay the same if the rays split right there, but it isnt a double tail. Nice looking fish though

Its not a damaged fin, its too perfect when u see it first hand!

It maybe a split tail.

i've never heard of a split tail before :/ i always thought a split tail was a bad thing becuase it meant the fin was damanged.

thanks for the correction, Joker.

like i said, i aint no breeder or show-er... I'm kinda numb when it comes to deciphering markings and whatnot. heh.

One of my female's tails is like this, my sister is telling me the same thing about it probably being split even though it looks so perfect. oh well. onlytime will tell!

I have a veil with a split like that, that just never grew back together. I agree with everyone else, he's just a veiltail with a split.

You can tell he's not a DT by the dorcal fin, also.

That looks like an imperfect Double Tail. There's a site that gives you the details on different tail types and It will show you a double tail (the split goes almost all the way in) and then imperfect double tails (if the split goes all the way to the body, or if the split doesnt go more than two/thirds in) It could be an injured fish but the split looks seemless. I'll have to find that website for you guys.
Either way it's a beautiful fish and you guys really shouldnt just assume that this person is wrong about it, Just because he's curious as to what the tail type is or what you think, doesnt mean he's a moron like you are treating him.

I don't think anyone was implying that he is a moron. He asked, and people are giving their opinions. The key feature to look for if one is unsure of a betta being a double tail is, as Auratus mentioned, the dorsal fin. Double tails have dorsal fins that are significantly wider then all other tail types.

More info:

"Doubletail (DT):
This tail type has a few typical characteristics: (1) the caudal consists out of two lobes, (2) the dorsal has twice as much rays than the dorsal of a normal singletail betta and (3) a slightly shorter body length [1-5]. The ideal doubletail has is symmetrical and has two equal tail lobes with a nice split which extends to the basis of the tail. The doubletail trait can be found in betas of any tail type and shape. For instance it can be seen in VT, D, SD, HM (DTHM = fullmoon) and CT. The double tail gene is recessive (or actually intermediar), but singletail bettas which are carrier of the DT gene most of the time already show a bigger dorsal (with more rays) which gives a fuller appearance. " Find more tail info and genetics here

I didnt mean to accuse you guys are anything, i just get deffensive when people are being treated as inferior. Some of the posts seemed rather harsh and sounded like " i know it you dont, it's deffinately what i said" and the last sight link that i sent simply proves that is could very easilly be a Double Tail, just not a show quality. You can't really tell by the picture if the dorsal fin is larger or if the fish has more or less rays

My guess is the female is considered imperfect due to the top lobe being significantly smaller then the bottom lobe, but I could be mistaken.
