What Should I Do?

TOTAL BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANY fish will adjust to almost ANY Ph if you acclimate it slowly and correctly!.. do drip acclimation or just float the bag and gthrow a cup of you tank water in there every 15 mins for a good hour and 1/2.....

Another case of "well the shop guy said this" because they dont know what they are talking about themselves!!!!!!!

makes me want to cry in anger :(

on the age of the tank .... you should make sure you are properly cycled or atleast have mature media from somewhere before you start throwing fish in.... unless youre going for a fish-in cycle then thumbs down to you bud

Do you think i should phone the guy up & tell him?
I did feel stupid asking for fish & he told me my PH isnt up to standard

Afterthought...the LFS chap might also have been trying to get you to purchase some kind of PH adjuster...

Like I stated before, if your tank is not cycled the NO, you shouldnt be getting ANY fish

Ok .... just phoned bk up ...
It appears that my readings are

Nitrate 5.0 Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 1.0

Hes saying that because i have 1.0 Nitrite it is reccommended to let the tank setle a couple more days before i take another water sample in & we will take things from there.

You really need to be doing a largeish water change asap, you have fish in the tank and they`ll die soon enough with stats like that.
Can`t understand why you got one set of results, now you have another set......it basically just proves the point that you shouldn`t be relying on your lfs to get anything right. they`ve given you nothing more than a right crock so far

Are you seriously considering taking more water in to them to be told lies again? :/

you should wait until ammonia is 0 then add 4ppm and if it disappears within 12 hrs you should be good.... since you dont test yourself i would add that much now...

So is it essential that i do another waterchange with my readings as they are?
Im really worried now !

4ppm? can you be alittle more specific ... i am a novice

use the calculator on this forum(at the top) to see how much ammoinia you need to add to make 4 parts per million (ppm)

Maybe one day someone will invent some kind of digital testing kit LOL  - something that gives you an actual reading in numbers rather than checking colours eh?

You just never know with modern-day technology!

They have Athena. It's called a photometer and I have one. You sample the water first and it takes a reading. Then you add the chemicals and it compares the 2 and tells you the answer in a digital readout which you can store. It's very accurate but expensive.

Or if you`re really flush get a gas chromatograph

I'm confused here..... Do you have fish in there at the moment or no????

if so then you should NOT be adding any ammonia and doing water changes of about 80% twice a day... changing water during a fish in cycle is essential ... it will NOT slow the process down..... also if you have fish in there you shouldnt be adding any more fish until you ammonia and nitrite reading both say 0

Yes, i have fish in there ... 6 Cardinal Tetra 4 Penguin Tetra 4 Mollys 4 Guppys
As i only done a waterchange 3 days ago would you advise me to do another one?
Im hoping when the mrs gets back she will have picked me an API testing kit ... fingers crossed.

like I said before... with a fish in cycle you should be doing MULTIPLE water changes of around 80% DAILY... multiple I mean atleast 2 a day, if you havent done one in a few days DO ONE NOW

To get an idea of how quickly your fish pollute the tank I would test the water an hour after feeding and then every 3 hours after that, always remembering that you need to do a pwc as soon as the levels reach 0.25ppm

I am doing a fish in cycle atm and doing a 10-15% water change every 2 days. I also have some plants in there and everything is going fine. With your levels i would think a much larger change is in order asap.

This fish in cycle is the one you should be taking a look at.
