I know bettas favorite foods are live bloodworms and other such insects, but I heard people saying they make there own food sometimes for their bettas. I know they like peas, they go crazy over those when I give some to them, but what other kinds of vegetables can they have? and is there any other "people food" I can safely give them as a treat?

Mine like spinach and garlic, blanched zuchinni and algae based frozen foods. They go crazy for anything with spirulina in it

I have a frozen food that my lfs makes ,it has spinach and algae, garlic, chicken liver, fish and some other stuff all pureed together, it smells delicious :*)

They can have all sorts of stuff, provided it's tender enough to digest easily. Don't be afraid to experiment, just avoid anything greasy.

ooo sounds quite interesting  I've never heard of spirulina before, what is that? I'm just afraid to try anything like chicken or meat, in case it has a bad effect on them..even though they are carnivours. I will have to try the garlic and chicken liver chopped up..my cats will like that too im sure ^_^

Spirulina is a micro-algae with about 60% vegetable matter, it's rich in all kinds of vitamins and minerals. If you really get in to making your own frozen foods you can buy spirulina in a powder form and mix it in :p

Personally...I'd also avoid feeding chicken livers and beef hearts from home, I don't know why...it just makes me nervous. I know of people who have done it with no ill effects though. I trust my lfs and I know they cook the meats to an appropriate degree in order to kill off bacteria -_-

Try making it with fish or prawn instead of chicken, your cat will love that too :p ,now I'm getting hungry

I bought some Hikari frozen brine shrimp with spirulina. It's green and the package is too. Very lovely and my residents in the 39 gallon tank give it an all fins up rating.
