What makes a fishtank look nice?

I think a black or blue background can make a tank look shallow in certain circumstances, and, provided it is not a stupid picture, some backgrounds depending on their colors combined with what is in your tank, can give an illusion of depth :) its all very circumstantial though, just go with whatever looks best to you!

I think he meant: When in doubt go with blue or black cause pictures tend to look dumb

Kevin has been to the coffee shop one to many times I think, LOL J/K

Okay........my turn....my turn :hyper:

My 55 gallon has a very neutral planty pictured background that I just LOVE.....I think a background like mine makes them feel more at home. In this tank I also have the darker substrate and natural colored plants and decor.

On the other hand.......my 29 gallon is more "fun". I have a plain blue background(I hate plain blue, very boring and fake looking) that I painted a plant scene on. It's sort of a whimsical painting, abstract I guess. I have a neon orange fake plant and a rainbow-colored hiding pot and blue rock for the substrate. I like how bright it is and my fish don't mind a bit. It actually matches each of their colorings so maybe they feel like they blend in a little.

I think you should just look/shop around and go to the Members Aquarium Section and if a certain them jumps out at you........DO IT!!!

I like both types of tanks...........so I have one of each!!!

Do it To it!

Okay I admit it..............it's late and I'm tired :zz :zz

i always thought u had to try to match the fishes natural environment, like cichlids love rocky places with heaps of hiding places or they get territioal and can/will kill each other, not sure bout other fish bout some might like more plants than rocks and so on, but its really up to you what u like the fishes dont have any say

hmmm thank u for the comment kevin... :*)

3ft

stats black background, substarte light sand, green plants, red rainbow slate and one huge hunk of bogwood.

the lighting is also differnt in both tnaks

4ft tank is a 35wat light and in the 3ft its only 15.... but the 15 looks brighter.

as iv said in another post like this, its what u think is pleasing to u... who cares if no-one else thinks the same as u? if we all liked the same tanks/fish this hooby would be boring.
