Hello!
I have 2 tanks, both the Topfin essentials brand. One is 5.5 gallons and the other is 10. They’re both rectangular (not corner shaped, bowed or anything).
I’d like to try live plants but the light that came attached to the included hood isn’t going to cut it. So I’m going to have to get new “lids” so whatever lighting I get can actually get into the tank. I have shrimp so I can’t do just an open top but I don’t know where to start as far as looking for one.

Thanks!

You could put a coverglass on top of the tanks and use a LED spotlight from a hardware or lighting store. Any LED light with a 6500K rated globe will be fine for plants. For small tanks a 10-20watt globe would be adequate but you could have more light if you like.

I agree with what Colin_T said:

I've had success growing aquatic plants with LED strip lights for indoor plants. I think the biggest thing is to find one with RGB (red blue green) and white lights. Plants use these the most in photosynthesis. Hope this helps!
