I have a platy that is 2 months and 5 days old and i cant find what variety of platy it is! its mother is a tuxedo but it looks nothing like it. it is tanish brown with a couple of blue-ish horizontal stripes. if you can tell me what variety it is that ould be great! thanks!

You might have better results is you post a piccy of the plattie if possible

Yes pic's would be the only way honestly, and being from shop fish the parents could be anything.

Sorry

well the mother was a shop fish but i saw her give birth in my best friends tank so im sure of the mother. only two fry survived, the brown one that i have and a tuxedo that looks just like the mother. i cant upload a picture cause i guess it was too large...idk why cause it was a tiny picture taken on my phone! stupid forum...and i dont have paint or anything to resize it so dont tell me too! sorry im frustrated that it wouldnt upload my picture....

You can also upload to photobucket where it is possible to use their tools to resize the picture. After that you just post a link here as if it were text. What you end up with looks like the picture is here but it really isn't. This is a picture of my brachyrhaphis female done that way.

It started as the same image in my avatar but of course it has not been reduced as much as the avatar.

Oldman How come you have such great pictures of your fish mine are always the wrong angle or something or the fish swims away??

Pictures are easy, just keep shooting and don't worry about it. After you have a hundred or so, drop them onto your PC, throw away all but 4 or 5 of the best, crop those few to only the thing you want in the picture and see if you have anything. Try again the next day and in less than a week you will have something that just needs the brightness adjusted to get a usable picture. I manual focus all of my pictures and my fish get really tired of being chased around with the flash going off in their faces. I use the portrait setting on my camera, the one with the crude picture of a tulip as the automatic brightness, etc. setting. The only manual thing that I override is the focus because otherwise the darned thing will focus on a plant or maybe on the glass.

If ich got your platy, you need to treat the rest of the fish in that tank. Ich is a parasite that will eventually become a problem for every fish in the tank. There is a link in my signature area to a site that has very good ich treatment information. It is called Ich Info.
