I've never seen a fish with these markings, is this man-made? What kind of Fish is this?

dyed/tattooed fish are dipped in ACID to burn off their protective slime (their immune system pretty much) then either dipped into dye, injected with dye, or they have the colors burned onto their scales in tattooing - -

it is NOT natural, exceptionally painful, and most of the fish die in the process.
not to mention that their immune system never fully recovers and they have a shorter life span with more chance for illnesses

people buy them because they look "cool"

fish that are originally only orange/yellow are now available in
red, blue, pink, purple, and green (dyed)
white with hearts/words/stars/spots/zigzags/chinese symbols etc etc are tattooed

but people are ignorant and don't often come to a site like yourself to learn - - they just impulse buy them because they are "pretty"
if it sells....they will keep making them. (whole demand/supply relationship)
most fish stores do not care about the fish, they simply see it as profit


major kudos for asking!!! the less people that buy these fish - - no demand will hopefully lead to no supply!!!

Sorry but that is not true, the immune system is the part of the body that controls where the white blood cells are sent, the white blood cells then surround the antigen and engulf it, they then produce an antibody which will be sent out to any part of the body should this antigen enter the body again. The slime coat simply is a protective barrier that acts as a physical barrier to stop things such as antigens and particles touching the scales.

The immune system and slime coating are two very different things.

About time that there was a fine for selling these types of fishes, it's disgusting and whichever way you look at it animal neglect. Let's dip the people who do it in acid then burn colours into them and see how they like it
