Not sure where people like me are supposed to vote?

Try these vareties:

brachyrhaphis roseni
brachyrhaphis terrabensis
heterandria formosa
girardinus metalicus "yellow belly"

These are wild vareties that are way better than the cultivated rubbish you so often see.

Here in the uk there are some top breeders of many "wild variety" species. Unfortunately I am not one of them!

Awww, you keep Mosquito fish and yellow-bellies?! Do you have any pictures? 'Cause I am soooo jealous! I've been looking everywhere for those guys. :/ The rarest thing I can find around here is Endlers though.

If you do have pictures, though, I would love to see them. :D And I really think there should have been an 'other' category or something for people like you, and others. Or maybe this was just ment to be your favorite of the common Livebearers. :dunno:

The girardinus metalicus "yellow belly" is possibly a new natural occuring colour form. I was luck enough to get a pair from a guy called Dave Macallester who I think I dare say is somewhat of an expert with livebearers in the UK. He recently gave a talk on livebearers and the collecting of them in and around Mexico. He told me that the "yellow belly" form location had not been revealled yet as it is thought to be a new variety. He has some that he is successfully breeding. The males have a bright lemon yellow underside. He tells me that some of the females can get this too. I do not have pictures yet but he did have some for sale on the aquarists-classifieds site. There might still be the advert in that section with a picture if it hasnt expired.

Or maybe this was just ment to be your favorite of the common Livebearers.

The trouble is people dont realise that there are other fish that just the usual cultivated varieties. It is a shame really. A lot are more hardy than the poor guppy strains on offer. It is best to read up on them first though as some are nippy like brachyrhaphis terrabensis.

If you want a good read on livebearers Derek Lambert has produced some excellent books on them. Unfortunately Derek passed away the other year at an early age. He had a vast knowledge on livebearers and managed to leave us with some of it in his books.

Thanks, I'll have to look into those books. Unfortunatly, I don't live in the UK...because Dave Macallester sounds like such a great guy. Ah well. :/

And yes, it is a shame more people don't realize about some of the wilder Livebearers...I personally love them, and adore them, and would love to keep all of them (if I could!). Maybe you should consider doing a write-up on here about some of the wilder Livebearers you know about? Then perhaps it would broader people's views on Livebearers. :)

Ive only had swords and guppies so for now my pick would be swords, mebey in the future Ill change my mind if I ever get more tanks to try other breeds. these keep me plenty busy with all the babies they have

Endlers however you have to fall for the charm of guppies

Very tough choice between mollys and guppys for me, guppys have alot of charm and beautiful looks but mollys have all the personality and energy- i ended up voting for guppys but i wish i could vote for mollys too :*) .

I havent been on in soooo long. I have been busy with school. i was finally able to get on today and cant believe how long this is and how lots of things have changed.
