I have a livebearer in my tank that has whiteish looking stuff on the sides and also its fins are wearing away  I was wondering what was wrong and how to make it better? any help will be great

Fins wearing away sounds like fin rot, I'd recommend putting the fish in a hospital tank. The white on it's sides sounds like a fungus. Try some sort of fungus cure whilst the fish is recovering in the hospital tank.

Well I am moving house at the weekend so I shall put it in a hospital tank. what can you do about finrot and how long should i leave it in the tank for? thanks

Finrot and the body fungus can both be treated with an anti-fungal medication. No clue exactly how long it'll take, but the medication should tell you.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
If the white on the fish is fluffy looking it columnaris.

not tested tank yet just bought the test kit tonight, my tank is a 60 litre and i have 12 neons, 2 livebearers and 2 algae eaters

You really can't wait. From my experience they rapidly get worse and will die within 1-3 days.

What type of algae eaters.
Columnaris can be caused by bad water quality so test your water.
