He's not breathing faster, just making bigger puffs with his gil to breath with. That just makes it seem faster. Now, he wouldn't eat for a while, but today, I got him to eat flakes, instead of bloodworms. That seemed to help, I did a water change and added Doc. Wellfish Aquarium Salt to the water. He seems better, but what is wrong?

SOMEBODY HELP!! I'M STARTING TO PANIC AND WORRY FOR MY DEAR EMERALD! IT JSUT GOT WORSE! HE'S LAYING DOWN! :-(
SORRY ABOUT CAPS, i'm panicking!!!

Ok, I figured out the problem, the pH is it. It is at a 9!!!!!!!!! I don't know how it spiked up so fast! I'm going to buy a pH reducer right now!

WOW, that was a spike! Be sure to pick up pH buffer! Wow, that is one tough betta :( . I had one croak when the pH changed .3! LFS had a different pH. I'll pray for Emerald, and good luck to become a breeder!

Well, all the petstores were closed, so, I came up with a solution. Gradually, I'd replace the water from the main aquarium, which isn't neutral, but isn't to soft either, I'd say around a 6.3. So, he seems to be doing better. I added some Doc Wellfish Aquarium Salt, and a bubble stone to be on the safe side.

Bettas do better in lower pHs, so the water from your aquarium ought to do the trick. I wonder what caused a spike like that? What pH is your water straight out of the tap?

I dunno! The pH in my water is normally around 6.5 and 7.0. So, I dunno what cause the pH to go so high!

Just checked on him for the 10,000,000th time.
He seems completely better, though I will be making observations over the night, I don't care that I have school tommorow.

Are there any decorations in the tank that might be messing with the pH? Shells, etc?

That's what I thought, so I took out everything. Cept it was a silk plant and some gravel.
