What is this?!

I am curious as to whether or not you change out the cartridge?

No problem, I’m returning to fish keeping after a long time and I’m still learning and in some cases re-learning. I’m not familiar with that Tetra filter. How long has your tank been established and do you know your water parameters? If you have a test kit, let us know your pH, ammonia, nitrite/nitrate levels, water hardness, etc. If you don’t have a kit, it’d be good time to get one. API master kit is a good all-around kit to have.
All I can tell you is that using the test kit (pH strips), the water levels are stable.
The tank was first established in December, so a couple of months ago.

Hope this helps!

It would be a good idea for you to keep a record of all test results. Especially in a new tank for the first several months. When you test, write down the test and the result under the date. This is an excellent way to monitor parameters and conditions, and sometimes it can tell us of problems current or likely.
