What Is This?

Odessa barbs are a vey peaceful fish, they will never bully a fish, unlike thier cousins the tiger barbs. the only reason for keeping odessa barbs in shoals is because when they are shoaling thier colors intensefies and that make them look realy pretty. Don't worry about keeping them swordtails, like I said Odessa barbs are not a fin nippers unless they are with a siamese fighting fish(Bettas) or angelfish. The odessa barbs make's a great addition to the well planted community tank, they would not harm you swordtails, if you ask me I will say that swordtails can bully them quit easily.GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BARB. By the way you have a cute odessa barb, that's a good specimen.

Thanks
He was really cute and stood out from the rest thats why i got him, he had this cool red stripe running along his body.
If i wanted to get him tank mates, how many would be enough because i already have plenty of fish in the tank and don,t add to the bioload. would 2 more be enough?

Barbs should be in groups of at least 6. You may find that they will still nip at your swordtails as it may be a tank size issue. How big is your tank?

Its a Aquaview 45 US gallon, and I found out too late that you have to have atleast 6 of them.

That should be fine for a group of 6.

I tried 3 but it did not work so I got rid of all of them. I guess they really wanted their own tank, but i don't have the space. The original barb still harassed my female swordtail and she is heavily pregnant so i got rid of all three of them.

that is much better....... I was kind of worried about them thoght, becuase when I was a member in an other forum, there was member that was having a shoal if toger barbs in a 70 gallon tank, one day those barbs had got aggeresive and attack the betta, when the member saw what the tiger barbs were doing he dicided to punish them by feeding them to Oscars, piranhas, bichirs and as far as I remeber I think they to pacus too!!
