Just noticed this on my betta that I have had for a few months. What is it and what can I do to get rid of it? There are shrimps and snails in the tank and none of the other fish in there are showing this. Thanks for the advice. Here's a pic.

Well it isn't ich.  Does it look lose or like part of the fish?  Is it fuzzy at all?

Looks like a Lernaea (Anchorworm). You can pull it off and then treat the area with a antibacterial treatment.

To me it looks like something is wedged under his scales. At first I thought fish louse, but I think dave is right with it being an anchorworm! I've read that Parasite Guard by Jungle may help, but I have no personal experience with it.

I think it is right to assume an anchor worm, some symptoms can be rubbing frequently, redness around the area (doesn't count for your fish's color) inflammation, tiny greenish white or red worms in a small wound, breathing difficulties, or just lethargy. The worm can be removed as stated above and treated.
