What Is The Minium Tanks Size For A Parrot Fish?

Do you mean the man made hybrid, or the true parrot fish, Hoplarchus psittacus?.

For the hyrbrid parrot I would say 4ft should be right. This may seem excessive to some, however parrots can reach 8-10", I've seen photos as well as real life examples of this size and the bulk of these fish is quite something.

Hoplarchus psittacus can reach 13-15" so I would say a 5ft tank is needed to propperly house one of these.

oh, i have been looking on the web and loads of peole have said they keep them in 15-20 gallon tanks with no problems and their happy.

I am assuming you are talking about a hybrid "blood" parrot, as there is not no response to the detailed post from shroob. In this case I'd say minimum 45USG+ going on the basic principles for cichlids of that size...this page has them at max 8": http://cichlidresearch.com/parrot.html

If you haven't got one yet I urge you not to...reasons are detailed in the above linked page

Those people are ignorant of the needs of these fish, and I doubt they've kept adults for 8-10 years, which is a typical lifespan for a blood parrot hybrid.

Adults can reach 20 cm/8 inches, and will certainly get to more than 15 cm/6 inches. As such, you need to treat them like you would other cichlids of similar size. 40 gallons would be very tight even for one, and 55 gallons a much healthier environment, especially if you intend to keep a pair or a companion fish like a catfish.
