What Is The Minimum Number Of Bala Sharks That I Should Have

What is the minimum number of bala sharks that I should have?

From what I've read, 5 is a good number with 3 being the minimum. I have 3 myself, and they always swim together and seem to be very happy. Not sure of their genders yet, because they're still under a year.

Id say 3 minimum with a really large long tank as they like to swim. be very aware of the size these guys grow to once they reach adulthood :)

The tank that I currently have is only 55 gallons, but for Christmas I'm getting a 150 gallon(can't wait). I would move the balas frome the 55 gallon to the 150 gallon at Christams time.

sensibly you should wait till you get the tank then get the fish later.

Realistically, you shouldn't get them at all.. they grow too large for a 150g tank..

If you do get them and keep them in a 55g or 150g tank they will be stunted and die long before their time.

The reason that I wanted to put the bala's in the 55 gallon in the first place was because I wanted them to grow really big so that when I got my 150 gallon they would already be large. But since the 150 gallon isn't going to be large enough I wont get the bala's at all. Thanks for all the help

dont want to give false info here,

But I believed that the minimum for balas was 100 gallons.

-_-

150gals is more than adequate for bala sharks, they will not get stunted at all in a tank that size.

100gals+ is definately preferable for bala sharks, however CFC says that 75gals is the absolute minimum- although of course when it comes down to it, its the length and width of the tank that are the most important things regardless of gallons;

yeah i was gonna say i thought 150g would e fine for 3 (obviously depending on dimensions) however i would wait until you have the bigger tank to get them.

I wouldn't put bala's in anything less than a 8'x3' as I know I'd not be happy with them in a smaller tank, they are just far to active, shoaling and fairly large at 14". So a shoal of 5 (minimum IMO) 14" fish, zooming around, they are very active fish.

Guys as long as he doesn't stick them in anything unreasonably small, I think they'll be fine. The 150 should be fine, but yeah its better to get a long and wide tank over tall.
