Thanks @Aqua67. She tested it at 8 with test strips, which are not accurate, but her local store in Amsterdam told her it was ‘hard’. Hence the confusion.

they are less accurate than liquid test kit But that does't mean the results are so far off to cause a problem. Without any other data assume it is reasonable accurate. Also the rusts depend on the water source. Well water is generally harder than river water. So to get the best data they need to get a test kit and accually test there water.

Liquid test strips is good down to 1 degree +/-one assuming the test iss done correctly.
Test strips don give consistant results and the accuracy is probably +/_ 2 degrees or so looking at my test strip bottle. Good enough for some general conclusions on the water.

I would always assume a strip result to be innaccurate.
