i went with gravel.. thats what is all my other tanks have except my salt water....

FYI - I went back 5 pages. and no i didn't do a search. excuse me. :p

on another subject, I'm very surprised that I'm the only person who voted for eco-complete so far. But I'm even more suprised that much more people are voting for gravel over sand.
I'm not against gravel by any means (that's what I use currently), but I've heard many people say how sand or eco-complete is better why. And I haven't head any argument on how gravel is better than sand or eco-complete and why. sooooo.....
for the people that voted gravel; can you tell me why you think gravel is better?
And for the people that don't like eco-complete; can you tell me why?

I'm just curious, and want to hear people's opinions. I lean towards eco-complete because I've heard so much good things about it but now I'm wondering if I got faulty information. :dunno:

5 pages isn't a lot though, probably only a few days if that. The subject has been coming up so much recently.

Don't worry I moaned to the last person that did it as well. I am not picking on you.

:)

If the subject has been coming up so much than it should be in the first five pages. I just went to the bottom post on the fifth page and it was posted on May 31st.

Can anyone explain to me WHY you think sand/gravel/eco-complete is better? I've heard so many good things about eco-complete, do I want to know how sand/ gravel is better

I like gravel just because that's what I've always used. I've heard that some people think sand is better because some catfish get their whiskers worn down when they poke down into the gravel...

can't you just control the urge to open a thread you have no interest in other then to moan about it?

really..why must you make someone feel out of place or uncomfortable?

sad

i voted other... it depends on the type of fish

i have crushed marble, sand, gravel, crushed coral and bare bottom tanks

>>> I'm very surprised that I'm the only person who voted for eco-complete so far

It could, of course, be that "Eco Complete" is not available everywhere. I've heard of it, but never seen it, and been keeping fish for more then 40 years...

>>> explain to me WHY you think

Okay.

All of my general tanks, (not specialist breeding/fry tanks), have swimming pool filter sand in them. It has a more even grain size/shape then a lot of other sands and as such, does not tend to pack down as Silver Sand or building sand for does for example - this reduces the amount of "gardening" necessary to keep it open.

I have had greater plant success with laterite bottomed sand substrates then with gravel, which I used to use.

Many bottom living fish prefer fine substrates.

Uneaten food and other waste/rubbish sit on the surface of the sand where it is easy to see and remove. It does not fall down between the grains and rot/fester away.

I have collected fish and plants from many places around the world, and in most of the places where there was anything that intrested me, the substrate has been fine grained.

I prefer the look of it.

If I thought about it, I'd probably think of more reasons!
