what is ich?

sorry, my 2 loaches do have ich and died on the same day and i guess my medication din't work............... :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

I'm sorry about your loches, mine died during ich treatment too, the medication takes time kevin, and can not help the fish while they have the spots on them. the spots need to fall off of the fish into the substrate, germinate and then hatch. it takes about 4 days for this to happen. after they hatch the medication kills the free floaters before they turn to spots on the fish again. you need to treat from the first spot noticed until about 4-5 days after you see the last spot. hope this helps :/

it does help but the info is not much in use right now cause they died :-( but it is usful for the future ich treatment, :look: good thing that my other fish did not get ich  , i am suspecting that my bronze cory might have them, not sure................ oh well, thanx anyways, tanked :hyper:

if you have began ich treatment I would continue until 4 or 5 days after you see the last spot fall, one dose here and there will not get rid of it and you will continue to lose fish. I know it really sux to lose fish, my newbie error was severe overstocking in an uncycled tank. most of my fish died, but I have learned from it and now will try to help others with what I have learned.

if you have a tank that did or does have ich in it that is not occupied, it is best to treat the edmty tank or just start over from the beginning. otherwise everything you put in there is susceptible to ich. ich can only be destroyed while it is free swimming off the host. when it is off the host it is impossible to detect.

Semper fi ... Maracyn II for ick??? I don't really think a broad spectrum antibiotic is going to have much of an effect on the ick parasite.

Or am I totally missing something?

maracyn is broader from what i understand. used maracyn II in my in laws tank for ich with salt and it did the trick. have also used just salt to get rid of ich. could be that senility is setting in or a major brain fart.

I think it's the salt or the fart. Maracyn II is just antibiotic.

was told to use this combo many moons ago. think it was that the maracynII was to ensure that no further infections resulted from the scales being lifted on the fish for the parasite to burrow into the host.

yep. but that's sort of a drastic shock to the bacteria in the tank. i believe MII is the one that wipes out the beneficial bacteria. I usually just treat the ick.

Then again, my ick infestation never went away until I got UV, so what the heck do I knowl...

$h!t :hyper: when my clown loaches died cause of ich, i thought the whole thing was over but guess i was wrong. now my only neon left has it and so does my painted skirt tetra/ painted glass fish and i am suspecting my red tailed shark has it too. the new ich medicine that i brounght is the "jungle ich gaurd", the only problem is that i can only use it when i change the water so i would have to change the water everyday if i want to use the medicine, do i have to get the fish out of the tank to change the water? but when the ich is off my fish, how much longer do i have to use it, not very likely? :look: i am so upset with ich that i would kill ich if i could. any one else uses this product? any tips? -_- i did post about what happened in my post in the first few page because my clown loach use have them but when they died i thought it was over now i have to deal with it again. DAMN! :grr:

offtopic: btw r swordtail agressive

Well, I would not rely on the jungle products, because they have not worked well for me. And sorry to say - your painted glass fish has dye injected into it! What a horrible thing to do to a fish.
