Hello again,
well, let me ask you this my fish guy tells me that the ph is high even in the warehouse so not to worry about mine.. i tried to us the dry test strips cause that is all we carry now.. and it shows my ph to be 8.0 could this be wrong.. cause i have tried everything to get it down and it is not going anywhere.. when we set up these tanks a year ago he brought this white powder stuff and all it did was cloud up my tanks for a week.. what cause's the ph to be so high?

There may be something in the water that is buffering it, which can make your pH more alkaline. If your fish seem to be doing ok, I wouldn't mess around with the pH. Chances are they've already adjusted to the 8.0 pH, and trying to adjust it will just stress them out.

Hello friend! You have been asking some very good questions. I think that I would not worry that your ph is reading at 8. That is exactly where mine sits when tested with 2 dif kinds of reliable kits. I've never been a real fan of the dry strips - they can ofter be too old or just not as reliable... Your ph may not be that high really...
If the warehouse is also high and your fish have not been having real trouble with your ph I wouldn't try to alter it, IMO it's not worth the added stress to the fish and with frequent water changes is such a hassle to get right... the fluctuations are more damaging then your actual ph for most fish. This said, there are some fish that prefer this ph and there are some that will be less likely to breed with this ph. Only research on your part can help you there.
Best of luck my friend, and keep asking those great questions. :D

You live in Texas. Unless I'm mistaken, the tapwater in most parts of Texas has a high pH and alkalinity. Most of the bedrock is limestone (Texas Holey rock for instance). A pH of 8.0 would not surprise me at all.

Like others have said, do not try to mess with your pH too much. Your fish will probably be fine, especially if the LFS uses the same water. Swings in pH are much more dangerous than the slightly higher levels themselves. Fish are very adaptable.

Good luck!

I must agree with everyone else. Your PH being 8.0 is not nearly as bad as trying to adjust it constantly. Just let it be and your fish will be fine.

well, i just want to say thanks for the anwers you all have helped me out alot. this will help me in my work and i think that my customers will enjoy that someone can help them much better if we know what to tell them.. ps just to let you all know my fish guy came in today and the fish are all doing well. and he wants to check out you site too he says it will help him to pass on the info to others he deals with too.. thanks again.

Walmartfish, i'd like to thank you for taking the time to learn about the fish in your care. So many people get really crummy advice from sales staff when they buy fish, and so many WalMarts have fish departments that are like bad horror movies... it is very refreshing to see someone trying to make things better. Thank you.
