I would imagine your silver would be fine in your water as they seem to do well wherever they are kept. Mine is in a ph of 7.2 but quite soft water. The 1-2" a month is the minimum I would say as the growth from young is quite rapid
Fantastic fish though although they do need a hell of a lot of space. Not sure what size a 180-220g is but I would have thought you'd need a good 10x 4x4 size tank /pond
