What If Mermaids Were Real?

I think I would feel guilty having Ariel in a tank but same time I prefer it to having a mermaid that wants to eat me. x_x  Maybe I'll just throw in my finace as a snack.

Two arts from two different continents.
Both Conformed real and Dated to over 20,000 years..

So in a few thousand years, we should see all that furry porn on the internet as proving that there were humanoid animals in existence?

Excuse this post if in parts it's a little vague.

My Gf watched a programme on channel similar to Discovery/etc recently. I being Sceptical at the start however was very interesting.

Programme involved a couple interesting video clips. One from an official RNLI training excercise in the waters off west coast of England.
The other from an exploring team employed by the oil industry working in the waters off Iceland/Greenland. They recorded both sounds and visuals from their trips to the depths. After reporting this to Icelandic Gov. they dismissed the findings and reminded the workers of the confidentially agreement. After a second sighting they went to the Danish government who have suspened all possible drilling activities off the Greenland coast till 2015.

As i said vague in parts, but anyone interested would be worth checking out. As seemed believable to a sceptic like me.

I've always thought the traditional half human, half fish type mermaid extremely unlikely to exist; fish and mammals are not closely related, at all!

Surely mermaids would be half human, half cetacean; like a dolphin or porpoise, or even seal, so they would be livebearers, yes

But, what if they were half-platypus?  Then what?

The discovery channel and all its ilk are so much trash.  I watch them when I want a good fictional bedtime story about UFO sightings or such.  The intellectual level of most of these programs is little better than reality TV shows with their over-dramatization and sensationalization and obsfucation of the relevant facts in order to deliver a compelling story but it's essentially BS.
The BBC is the only half-decent source of good science programs that I would give any credence to.

Yes it will be mammal based sea animal. Traditional marmaid would swim front and back with upper body and side to raise with lower body.. They described marmaid same way as described space ship as fire breathing dragon..

Oh, apparently I crossed some sort of line... I just wish I knew where it was.

I always wished for a mermaid as a pet. But real mermaids are not at all cute like Ariel.
I would rather prefer water pixies for my aquarium. :- :)
