I have been advised that we have to decide what we want to keep BEFORE setting up our new Marine tank.
The only thing I do know is I want to keep a seahorse or two. The tank we have got is the Seabray 300 litre converted with sump already.

I am picking the tank up tomorrow, and will set it up over xmas.

What fish are compatible with seahorses?

I always do things #### about face, and then people say " Ooh, I wouldn't have put them in with those", so I am trying to stay ahead of the game with this one.

Thank you in advance

Rob

This with seahorses is that they are very slow moving and so any fish that is quite active can stress them. Also fast moving fish will eat any food when it comes to feeding time which may leave the seahorses left hungry! Pipefish are also slow moving and have similar requirements to seahorses as far as I am aware so you may consider getting them?

Godd luck with it all ;)

Yeah, 1entra is right, its kinda tough to keep seahorses with any fish other than pipefish

Yea defo. You jst have to be careful with some corals though as seahorses and pipefish have a tendancy to cling onto corals "stems" and can stress them out if not kill of that part of the coral!

WOW.! u guys are a big help... thanks again

I partially disagree. Any fish that is not a fast-moving planktonivore or fish predator can be kept with them... this means smaller drums and pebble toothed morays are an option, among others.

You are looking at less aggressive feeders for sea horses, as mentioned above, but don't just look at fish. Anyone who keeps cleaner shrimp will know just how quick they are to hog food, so one must think long and hard about them too.

Any fish that tends to take food from the bottom and is not too aggressive at feeding should be fine with sea horses. I like the idea from Lynden of pebble toothed morays. My White Ribbon takes prawn from a stick but leaves alone the rest of the food in the reef, so would make a great tankmate for sea horses.

A lot of people now train their horses to feed in a dish, you could make a food bowl and attach it to the side with suction cups, then run air line tubing to it, then you can feed the horses separately and distract the other tank mates sort of like some people have to do while feeding corals to keep cleaners from stealing.
