i took a sample of the water to a local and they said that the water was all good. I would like to know what fish i can put in my tank, it is a 48" X 18" X 14" i am not sure what to do, either i take out my 5 tiger barbs or leave them in and put some thing more interesting in it that has some movement.
i want fish that will play with each other but wont kill thats y i think i might get rid of the barbs ?? but i am not sure what i want to do if any one has any ideas that would help thanks.

Well you could get a few more corys as they like to be in groups of at least 3. Doesn't matter if they are different types as they will still shoal. If you keep the tiger barbs then it is best to have fish without flowing fins (angels etc) as the barbs tend to nip. Why not keep either a species barb tank, there's lots of different types, or if you decide to out the barbs have a community tank. Or you could go the species dwarf cichlid way, either dwarf africans or central americans.

Hi Shane,

I personally would swap the tiger barbs for something else as i found them to be nippy.

In a tank that size i would put 8-10 corys of 2 or 3 varieties OR 6 corys and 4 khuli loach

a group of 8 marbled hatchet fish (something to look at, at the top of the tank)

a couple of groups of tetras (i like rummy nose and cardinal)6-8 of each variety (but most tetras which grow up to 2 inches would be compatible.)

a pair of bristle nose plecs or 6 otocinclus (to eat the algae)

a few shrimp either amano or fan shrimp (just for something a bit different)
