What Fish Surprised You?

I feel like a lot of people tend to discount how much personality such a small fish can have. One of my first fish was a betta, and he was quite the funny guy.
I believe you ;) mine was also a kind of a rascal : he wanted to crunch "his" nerite's antennas ! He would hide behind a root or a leaf, watching for the nerite ! I had the fastest nerite in antenna vanishing !

Blue Stream Goby. My wife bought one as a whim, its a female so rather drab coloration but its behaviors are very fun to watch. She starts cleaning the biofilm off a leaf, moving up towards the top and when the leaf bends over she rides it down eating as she goes, then swims to the next.

They also swim by "hopping", a burst of swimming then sinking to their favorite perch. I don't know if they have a full swim bladder or not, but they act like they don't use a swim bladder.

my mom’s a moron who uses her dumb ipad.
can you be my mommy & take some awesome pics? I‘m covered in tiny black spots & she makes be look like a grey merd.💩
Merci beaucoup! ❤️❤️❤️
From France to Pennsylvania.................. need to get my arms extended 😂

I think Julidochromis is an interesting and intelligent fish as it can turn it's body and head at almost any direction.
It can even be in a climbing position just like someone climbing a rock.

Secondly is my Panther crab.
One morning I woke up to see the crab disappeared from my tank despite having a lid on my tank.
I found that one of the driftwoods was pushed all the way to the front near to the lid's ventilation hole.
Then I realized that it had escaped just like a prisoner who pushed a ladder to a hole of the ceiling and escaped through the hole.
Until today, I couldn't find it carcass.
It was also able to lift up a cave just like a weight lifter lifting up the barbell.

Third is my Sulawesi white socks shrimps.
The way they grazed on the algae are like someone dancing while wearing white socks.

Bristles the delinquent BN

There is a large resin rock in his aquarium. The rock has a hole around 2 inches diameter about halfway up (the rock is about 18 inches tall by around 4 inches).

Bristles has taken the rock over completely. The rock is HIS rock.

Early morning and evening he will park on the flat top, surveying all around him, occasionally wagging his tail. Most of the day he spends either head in the hole with his body flapping in the filter flow.....or as below, fully inside the rock with just his whiskers flowing in the filter flow

Woe betide anyone else who tries to enter HIS rock, sit on HIS rock or cling to the side of HIS rock. It is HIS rock and everyone else...human included...can "naff off!"

A poor Brit swimming in the sea around @Colin_T territory was surprised by a Tiger Shark at the weekend. RIP.
His wife seems very stoic, he died doing what he loved, nature’s way, it’s their territory type sentiments.
I love swimming in the Mediterranean but am always nervous off Australia, Florida and in the Caribbean.

I was watching my 55 gallon today at breakfast, and just marveled at how well it turned out. Going in, I fully expected my Black Ruby Barbs to be my least favorite fish in the tank. But they really add such a huge pop of color to the tank. When I got them they were pretty bland, but they have such stunning colors now.
What fish did you buy that surprised you? In appearance or personality?

I bought my Zebra Danios to help cycle my tank, asking the fish store if I could return them afterwards, because I had my eye on more colorful, larger fish. Next thing i know, I was falling in love with the little crack heads. It was their crazy way of chasing one another, zig zagging through rocks and plants, putting their pedal to the metal that infectiously put a grin on my face and an extra groove in my step. That was 4 months ago. I did end up adding my other favorites, who I can proudly say are thriving and happy (after a mildly bumpy start), but I adore my Danios as much as all the others silly goofballs and plan to soon get a couple more.
