Only you can really say what fish you want my only advice would to be bump up the TB numbers to atleast 8.

Agree with the above, more tiger barbs, perhaps something like loaches or corydoras for the bottom? Remember, fish with long fins will fare badly, and avoid gouramis.

would i not even be able to get a pearl gourami

At the end of the day its your tank, your fish. Nobody can say in black and white what will work and what wont because all fish and all tanks are different. If your number of TB are large enough theres every chance all the aggresion will be dispursed within there own group and a gourami would be fine. Only you can make the choice and take the chance.

Yeah, I really can't recommend that gourami, you'll need something much more... subdued. The gourami might not be bothered, but that's dependent on the size of it's fins, the size of that tank, and the size of your shoal (of tiger barbs). You'll also need plenty of plantings for this to work.
